I'm just starting out again after being away from (basic) self-taught sewing, so I explored low and high end sewing machines on the net and in generic stores ... decided to settle for a low end, basic machine. It meets my needs for basic sewing. Every sewing machine I explored was made in China regardless of brand (sad). The machine arrived promptly, was easy to set up, and is light weight. Years ago on the "old" portable machines, I routinely had "tension" problems; so far, the bobbin, tension, etc., have been operating well. I find the needle a bit awkward to thread, but hope practice helps. This machine has lots of features, so I don't regret starting on the low end.
