Copyright 2010 Epson America, Inc. 10/10 [[ Get More Full Details Information ]] This review is from: Epson WorkForce 840 Color Ink Jet Wireless All-in-One with Fax (C11CA97201) (Office Product) The only two models I considered were the Epson Workforce 840 and the HP 8500A Plus. My top priorities were speed, laser like text quality, ink that won't smudge (pigment based) if I use a highlighter on color or black, two sided scanning/copying and printing, and ink that was not too expensive. Both the HP and Epson do well at fulfilling these requirements. However, the HP has a legal size flatbed and a 50 page (vs. 30 page) auto-document feeder. What led me to purchase the Epson: *Problems with past HP printer in regards to ink expiration, networking and obtrusive software. *A quick search of the 8500A led me to find many reviewers with paper feeding issues, premature print head failure, and an excessive amount of time/waste during the ink priming/cleaning cycle. Also, it seems like many have had nightmare experiences resolving these problems with HP support. *So, although the cost per page on the HP seems to be less, there are some unknowns and some issues with their system. *I have known many with the Epson Durabrite system, and they have been happy. Epson has used pigment based ink in many printers for quite some time. *Overwhelming good reviews from users. No paper feed issues, generally good reviews on text quality. *Price Experience after purchase: *Setup on Windows 7 64 bit required me to manually set up some of the network features. I have read that the latest software fixes these difficulties, so I recommend downloading the latest drivers of off Epson's website. *After aligning the printer, the text is much like my old laser, photos on regular paper are very good, print speed is fast enough to where I will not miss my old laser printer. *Two sided copying/scanning/printing works great *The touch screen is great, and software does not "pop up" all of the time. *The device consistently stay on the wireless network without errors. *Scanning software has an excellent interface and is easy to use. *Unit does not make a loud racket while;e printing. *It is nice to have the extra paper tray Summary: I am very happy with the product, and at the price, I consider it to be an excellent value. It would be 5 stars on all categories if I knew for certain that they were shipping software that installed flawlessly, so I recommend downloading the latest off Epson's website. BTW: For photo printing, paper designed by Epson for durabrite ink seems to work best. Pigment inks are quite a bit different than dye-based in most consumer photo printers.
