This review is from: HP Officejet Pro 8500A Wireless e-All-in-One (CM755A#B1H) (Office Product)
I found it very easy to physically set it up. But the configuration was far from easy. Here are my tips.
1. I had a choice of connecting via USB or wireless. I chose USB as I thought it would be more reliable. Mistake. Choose wireless or ethernet if you can. USB does not allow web connectivity even though its connected to a web connected computer. This removes a lot of the intelligent fuctionality which takes a while to realise.
2. Firmware. Out of the box was some old firmware and the help manuals referred to the most recent firmware so a lot of timewasting later I figured it out. With the old firmware you have to struggle to find how to update to the latest firmware - the critical thing is to enable web services. Then it just happens and a restart later and all the menus are different etc etc and all is MUCH nicer.
3. Enable web services - see above
4. Set everything up via the web interface. It is smooth and powerful.
With this I tried printing from my ipad and 'it just worked'. Very sweet indeed! With the old firmware my ipad would not find any printer.
I've managed to set up shared folders on my PC and get it to scan nicely (its quick) into the shared folder. Differenty shared folders need to be set up for different settings -eg black and white letters vs photos.
I've not managed to 'find' the printer from my 2nd PC in the house. So its not all a walk in the park but I'm sure its a matter of time and research!
The manual is terrible by the way, and the online help is almost as bad. That's why I'm writing this.
