This printer is excellent. It was easy to connect it to my wifi network, and when I turn the printer on, it quickly reconnects. There is a fan on the right side of the unit which other people have complained about. On my wifi network the fan is almost always off -- it only turns on when a print job is sent to the printer and for a short time afterward. Scanning quality is excellent, the sheetfeeder works well, and tucks out of the way. Scanning is fast. In order to scan directly to an email address without a computer, you need to install additional firmware from Brother's website ("Internet FAX (/ Scan to E-mail Server/ Fax to Server)* Install Tool"). I don't know why Brother provisions it that way -- it wasn't easy to realize that the download was necessary, and that was an important feature to me. The process of installing the supplemental firmware was easy, though. The manuals are a little confusing -- there's a Basic manual, an Advanced manual, and a Network manual -- I'd rather everything had been put in one manual instead of scattered in a disorganized way. My only knock on this printer is the way that it handles stored email addresses. I'd like it to store a saved email address and nothing more; instead, it stores an entire profile, such as: email@domain 300dpi B/W PDF. What this means is that you need to set up multiple profiles for each email address (say, one B/W PDF, one grayscale PDF, and one color JPEG). I also had trouble changing the printer settings from Brother's Control Center software, but you can adjust the same settings by going in your browser to the IP address of the printer, much as you would to see your wireless router's settings. I highly recommend it.
