This handy Digital To Analog Audio converter box takes your coaxial/optical (S/PDIF or TOSLink) digital audio source and converts it to standard analog left/right audio, for connection to an external device such as an amplifier or recording deck via standard RCA-style jacks. Bridge your legacy sound system with digital sources such as DVD and CD players that don't have RCA-style analog outputs.
In a handsome white plastic chassis, this device is a small 1.65 x 0.87 x 1.59 inches in size, and weighs just 25g. It's a breeze to set up and keep out of the way.
Handles Most Digital Signals
This box converts S/PDIF or TOSLink digital audio signals to analog L/R audio, accepting uncompressed digital audio at 32, 44.1, 48 and 96 KHz sample rates.
How it Works
Simply run a short extension cable from an available digital audio output jack on your digital source device to the same type of digital input on the Converter. Select which kind of digital signal (coaxial or optical) is being input with the selector switch on the converter, then hook up your analog RCA-style left and right cables to the Converter's analog RCA jack outputs and power up all equipment.
**Please note that this product does not support encoded Dolby Digital audio. Verify you can turn off Dolby Digital in the source you will be connecting to this converter.

This review is from: Digital Audio To Analog Audio Converter (Electronics)
Unfortunately I found a review too late to save me from buying this device. It does not work with my HD Monitor/TV. I tried everything.
The other review started that "(this works) with a digital non-high def signal, but not with a channel broadcasting high def with 5.1 surround sound.
I live in Houston and all channels seem to be of that type. I looked at the description and there was no caution.
I looked elsewhere and that sell had it in big red letters.
