I wanted to wait a couple of weeks while I used this razor before submitting a review, so I could have as much real-world experience with it as possible. It's an excellent razor, and the blades that are included are very sharp. I don't know if they are sharper than other blades, and will have to purchase some others to compare. I only use soap as a lubricant and shave after I shower, so purchasing a dedicated lather might make a difference as well. At first, shaving with this safety razor is a little intimidating, as the blades are very sharp and the sound as the hairs are sliced is very different from that of a disposable razor. The first day I shaved, I got two nicks; the second day I only got one nick; and since then haven't had any noticeable nicks, so the learning curve is pretty quick.
Two tricks that I've learned is 1: lock the razor down tight - this causes the blade to bend, moving it to the correct position and angle in the head. 2: don't use too much pressure against the face, as it's not needed and will only cause unnecessary nicks.
As far as the actual razor is concerned, I love the heft and build quality. I wish the handle was a little bit longer, but this is one of the longer razors, so I guess that it's not an easy thing to find. The grooves running parallel to the handle help in holding the razor at the right angle to the face, but I find my fingers slip down toward the head of the razor over time. If there were lateral grooves perpendicular to the handle in addition to the existing parallel grooves, I think it would hold a little better in the hand.
Each blade is lasting around a week and a half to two weeks, so the cost of the razor will be made up pretty quickly from the cheaper refill price in comparison to the Mach 5 refills that I was purchasing prior to this razor.
All in all, a very well made; heavy razor that feels good in the hands and works extremely well. It locks the blade down tightly and allows plenty of water through to easily rinse away any accumulated hairs. Highly recommended for the price.
