Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) First off, the HP Officejet 7500A is big on features. In the past, I've found that singe-purpose stand-alone devices give better quality results than a single unit with multiple device functions. The HP Officejet 7500A has changed my mind on that train of thought, by providing truly exceptional quality of everything it does, all in one single device.

Setup: Wireless connectivity was easy to set up and reliable on a Netgear WNDR3700 router with WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] security. Using the WPS button to do the setup was even easier. No problems, no hassle, just push a button, wait a few seconds, and you're ready to go. Connecting to a wired network through a Cisco 861 Integrated Services Router using CAT5e cable was just as simple, as was USB direct to a computer.

All 3 of the connection choices worked flawlessly, and setup for any of them is fast and simple. The software installed on two different Microsoft Windows Vista x64 computers without any difficulty, though the ESET Smart Security 4 software did cause some problems with finding the network printer and required manually configuring some advanced settings to allow 2-way communications, while I found that the system using Norton 360 Version 4 to be flawless and needed no advanced configuration to allow the computer and network printer to communicate with each other.

Configuration of all the HP Officejet 7500A settings whether done via software or on the touchscreen panel on the device itself was intuitively laid out, easy to navigate to the options, and simple to configure. There are no archaic options to confuse even the most technologically impaired luddite.

Printing: While I realize that the printer is a 4-color office printer, not a 6 or 8 color photo printer, the quality of photo prints is still very good. More than enough for snapshots and vacation photos, or anything but the most critically precise needs. For other printing needs like pamphlets, brochures, cards, labels, and so-forth, the print quality is on par with any other mid to high-end printer out there. I found the printer head and ink cartridges easy to access and to install/replace, with no fuss and no mess. While the printer doesn't do auto-duplex printing, it can be done manually, though it is a bit more of a hassle since you have to print the first sides, open the paper feed tray, and place the stack back inside, properly oriented to be printed on the reverse side; so if you print on both sides frequently, this may not be the device for you.

Fax: I've only had a chance to test the B&W fax capabilities, so I cannot comment on color fax quality. However, I found the HP Officejet 7500A to send and receive faxes easily, and with good quality. Faxing is very simple, and the on-screen display guides you through the process without any complications. The hardest part was remembering to put the top or bottom of the page into the document feeder first, but on closer inspection the document feeder has a emblem on it that shows the proper paper orientation with which to feed it, so even that is a non-issue. There is a block-list provided too, so you can block out any numbers you want from sending you faxes, provided you have caller-ID service on your line. Also it is compatable with answering machines (for those who use fax and landline voice on the same line, or can be set up to use distinctive ring services if you have separate fax and voice numbers on the same physical line.

Scanning: Scan quality is exceptional, and though it doesn't come with any attachments to scan slides or transparencies, it does can photos and documents with incredible quality, easily matching the quality of any of the stand-alone flatbed scanners I've ever used. The addition of transparency plates would have been nice, but are certainly not a deal-breaker for the average home or small-office user.

Memory Card Slots: I was only able to print tagged photos from an Olympus XD memory card, which worked fine. There is no slot for CompactFlash (CF) cards which was very disappointing, given the popularity of them and considering all but one piece of my equipment uses CF cards and not XD or SD cards, this was enough to leave me scratching my head while wondering what they were thinking when leaving out a CF card slot.

e-Print: Again, another feature that works as advertised. From having documents emailed directly to the HP 7500A email address for direct printing, or printing different items from the Apps feature, it all works well. There is one issue with the Apps I've found, and that is for the coupon app, where it will display a label and picture that are clearly different from each other, so it's 50/50 what you might actually be printing (for instance the label will say a $1 coupon for a certain brand of yogurt, but the picture above the label will be for a corn flakes with a rooster on the box. This is not so much a HP Officejet 7500A problem as it is with the Apps it supports. The e-printing feature also allows you to keep a list of email address that may print to your e-all-in-one, or you may set it so anyone who has the email address can sent print jobs to your machine for immediate printing.

Conclusion: HP didn't leave much out on this incredibly well thought out and easy to use e-all-in-one device. If you need the wide-format printing capabilities this unit offers, you would be hard pressed to find a better quality device with all the features and user-friendliness that the HP Officejet 7500A offers.
